MRS. NELLIE BRADFIELD (page 55-56, vol 1)
When she died on September 26, 1917, in a Columbus hospital, Mrs. Nellie Bradfield had been a pioneer resident of this area for 35 years. She was born Permilla "Nellie" Nelson in Sweden on May 6, 1862, and when 20 years old came to Columbus with her brother, Olaf Nelson, to join an uncle, Judge Olaf Lafverson, who had filed on a claim five miles west of Columbus four years previously. In 1887, she was married to John Bradfield. There were no children. After his death she continued to live on her uncle's ranch, and directed the grain and cattle raising on the place. Her favorite niece was Nellie Nelson (Holmgren) and Mrs. Bradford and the girl were affectionately called "Big Nellie" and "Little Nellie."
